  • What is it?:  A week-long annual celebration in honor of Saint Fermín, showcasing many traditional and folkloric events, most notably the "Running of the Bulls."
  • When is it?:  July
  • Location:  Pamplona, Spain

Accommodations:

  • Planning -- You should start planning your trip about 4-5 months in advance (Feb / March timeframe).
  • All Options -- Look at all options including budget hotels, bed & breakfasts, vacation home rentals, and family & friends.  We suggest trying AirBnB.

Events:

  • Running of the Bulls -- Hundreds of people run in front of six bulls and another six steers down a half-mile stretch of narrow streets. The run ends in the Pamplona's bullring taking a mean time of around 3 minutes where the bulls would be held until the afternoon's bullfight. (July 7 - 14)
  • Giants & Big-heads Parade -- The giant figures were created in 1860 and represent four pairs of kings and queens of four different races & places.  There are an additional 17 figures of big-head masks & helmets of human-like caricatures. 
  • Traditional Sports -- Each morning, there are exhibitions & competitions in stone lifting, wood cutting, and hay bale lifting.  There is also a jai alai tournament where betting is common.
  • Bullfighting -- Every afternoon at 6:30pm there is a bullfight in which the 6 bulls that have been driven to the bullring during the bull running of that day are killed.  (Note:  Experiencify does not condone bullfighting but is including it for informational purposes)

Rules for the Bull Run:

  • Age -- No one under 18 years old allowed.
  • Impairment -- You're not allowed to participate if you're drunk or on drugs.
  • Clothing -- Must wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
  • Inciting -- You're not allowed to incite the bulls in any way, hold them, mistreat them, or run behind them.  
  • Photos --  No photography inside the run unless authorized to do so.
  • Locations --  Not allowed to cross police barricades or stand in areas prohibited by police.
