The Atlantic Road:

  • Route:  5.2 miles between the towns of Kristiansund and Molde (Norway)
  • Description:  Built across several islands, causeways, and 8 bridges that zigzag and jut out to the sea - the most prominent being Storseisundet Bridge, curving scenically above the water.  In calm weather you can spot seals & whales, and in the fall, raging storms pound the road. 

Bollenstreek Route:

  • Route25 miles from Haarlem to Leiden (Netherlands)
  • Description:  This very scenic drive, also known as the "Flower Route," passes through dense brightly colored fields of flowers, including tulips, narcissi, hyacinths, and daffodils.

Transfăgărășan Highway:

  • Route:  56 miles between Sibiu & Pitesti (Romania)
  • DescriptionThis road winds & twists through the Transylvanian Alps reaching over 1-mile high.  It traverses 27 bridges, follows the Arges River, and goes through an unlit half-mile long tunnel.

Grossglockner High Alpine Road:

  • Route30 miles between Salzburg & Carinthia (Austria)
  • Description:  With 36 curves & an altitude of over 8200 feet, it goes to the wilds of Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest nature reserve in the Alps and a magnet for hikers, cyclists, and snowshoers. 

Furka Pass:

  • Route19 miles from Gletsch to Andermatt (Swiss Alps)
  • Description:  Providing multiple hairpin twists & turns, steep grades, and views of Rhone Glacier & the Swiss Alps, it climbs to almost 8k feet altitude.  It was also immortalized in a classic car chase scene in the James Bond film Goldfinger.

Trollstigen Highway:

  • Route:  56 miles from Lake Langvatnet to the Sogge Bridge in Romsdal (Norway)
  • Description:  It features a steep 10% incline, 11 hairpin turns, 6 panoramic viewing areas, surrounded by mountains, valleys, whirlpools, gorges, and fjords.  Hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing are also nearby.
